Sylvia Johns Obituary

Sylvia Marie Johns, born October 22, 1944 in Chicago Heights, Illinois to Paul and Frances Gavenda, passed away December 3rd , 2020 with her family by her side in Elmhurst, Illinois. Sylvia was the beloved wife of the late Donald R. Johns Sr. and the late Frank Labuda. She was also the loving mother of James (Cheryl) Labuda and Joseph (Peggy) Labuda; proud grandma of Lillian, Sophie, Danny, Megan, and Sarah; dear sister of the late Alan (Janice) Gavenda and Rita (Kenneth) Beukema; and, the fond aunt of Mark, Barry, Therese, Kerry, and the late Kevin.Sylvia attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Chicago Heights and graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 1962. She married Frank Labuda, Jr. in 1965, and had twin sons, James and Joseph. After Frank’s passing, Sylvia met, fell in love with, and married Donald Johns Sr. in 1988. From that moment on they were inseparable, spending their summers in Ludington, Michigan and traveling to see Blue Angels' shows. While at home, the television was always tuned to the Hallmark channel. More than anything, Sylvia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them to bake, and sharing stories of their dads’ antics growing up. Sylvia was a life-long member of Polish Falcons Nest 42 and St. Joseph’s Church. Funeral services and interment at Calvary Cemetery, Steger, Illinois are private and arrangements are entrusted to Walter Quinlan Funeral Directors.
