James “Jim” T. McGreal, age 65 of Alsip, IL. Beloved husband of 45 years to Sheila McGreal nee Morrison; Jim cherished all 50 years of their life together. Preceded in death by many loved ones, including his parents, James P. McGreal (CPD) and Marilyn McGreal nee Behnke. Loving father of James (Shannon), Joseph (Sabrina), and Jonathan (Tera). Proud grandfather to Meaghan, James, Joseph, Jason, and Stephen. Dear brother to Michael (Diane), John (Bonnie), Timothy (Laura) and sister-in-law Maureen Morrison. Adoring uncle to his nieces and nephews. Caring cousin and fond friend to many.
In addition to his role as a devoted family man, Jim was a dedicated second-generation police officer, serving the Alsip Police Department for 26 years. Jim exemplified the values of duty, honor, and selflessness in his work. When not serving his community as a police officer, he filled his time coaching his sons’ sports teams, leading Cub Scouts, participating in the Marist Fathers’ Club, and serving as President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 31.
While Jim’s later years were spent battling Early-Onset Alzheimer’s, his spirit and love for his family remained untarnished despite the cruelty of his disease. Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 2, 2024, at St. Linus Church, 10300 Lawler Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. Interment private.
